Dinner Roll

Here’s a classic dinner roll recipe that results in soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet rolls:

---

Ingredients (Makes 12-15 rolls):

3 1/4 cups (400g) all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup (240ml) warm milk (about 110°F or 45°C)

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter (softened)

1 large egg

1 tsp salt

For Brushing:

2 tbsp melted butter

---

Instructions:

1. Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Mix the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

3. Knead the Dough:

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic, or knead with a stand mixer using a dough hook for about 5 minutes.

4. First Rise:

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape the Rolls:

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and arrange them in a greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Second Rise:

Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until they are puffy and almost doubled in size.

7. Bake:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

8. Brush with Butter:

Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter for a soft, glossy finish.

---

Tips:

To make these rolls ahead, let the shaped rolls rise in the fridge overnight and bake the next day.

For a sweeter variation, add 1-2 tablespoons of honey.

These rolls freeze well! Cool them completely, then store in an airtight container or bag. Reheat in the oven before serving.

Enjoy your delicious dinner rolls!
