Beef steak

Here's a simple and tasty recipe for pan-seared beef steak:

Ingredients:

2 beef steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or your preferred cut, about 1-inch thick)

1 tablespoon olive oil (or your preferred cooking oil)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

2 cloves garlic, smashed

1 tablespoon fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Steak:

Remove the steaks from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking, allowing them to come to room temperature. This helps ensure even cooking.

Pat the steaks dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This will help create a nice sear.

Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper. If you're using fresh thyme or rosemary, sprinkle it on top.

2. Cook the Steak:

Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat until hot.

Add the steaks to the skillet. Don't overcrowd the pan—cook one or two steaks at a time, depending on the size of your pan.

Sear the steaks for about 4-5 minutes on the first side, without moving them, until a rich, golden-brown crust forms.

Flip the steaks and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust the time for your desired level of doneness (more time for medium or well-done steaks). Use a meat thermometer for accuracy: 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium.

3. Add Butter and Aromatics:

When the steaks are close to being done, add the butter, smashed garlic, and fresh herbs (if using) to the pan.

As the butter melts, spoon it over the steaks repeatedly (basting) to enhance flavor and moisture.

4. Rest the Steak:

Remove the steaks from the pan and let them rest for about 5 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, making the steak more tender and flavorful.

5. Optional Sauce:

For a simple pan sauce, after removing the steaks, add Worcestershire sauce and/or balsamic vinegar to the pan, scraping up any browned bits. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes and then drizzle it over the steaks.

6. Serve:

Slice the steaks against the grain and serve with your favorite sides, like roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.

Enjoy your delicious, perfectly seared beef steak!
