Pandan Puto Cheese Recipe

Puto is a Filipino steamed rice cake, and combining pandan flavor with cheese gives it a unique and delicious twist. Here's a simple recipe to make Pandan Puto Cheese:

Ingredients:

For the Puto (Rice Cake):

1 1/2 cups rice flour (or all-purpose flour if you prefer)

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup powdered milk (or fresh milk)

1/4 cup melted butter

1 tablespoon pandan extract (or pandan flavoring)

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 cup water

1/4 cup grated cheese (for topping)

Pinch of salt


Instructions:

1. Prepare the Puto Batter:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice flour (or all-purpose flour), sugar, powdered milk, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine.

Add the melted butter, pandan extract, and water to the dry ingredients. Mix until you get a smooth batter.



2. Steam the Puto:

Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil. Grease your puto molds or small muffin cups lightly with oil or cooking spray.

Pour the batter into the molds, filling them about 3/4 of the way full.

Place the molds in the steamer and cover with a clean cloth before covering the lid to avoid water dripping onto the batter.

Steam the puto over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.



3. Add Cheese:

After about 10 minutes of steaming, add a small amount of grated cheese (about a teaspoon or more, depending on preference) on top of each puto. Continue steaming for the remaining time until cooked.



4. Serve:

Once done, allow the puto to cool slightly before removing from the molds.

Serve warm or at room temperature as a snack or dessert.




Tips:

You can also add a little bit of grated cheddar cheese or cream cheese for extra flavor in the batter itself.

Adjust the amount of pandan extract depending on how strong you want the flavor to be. Some extracts can be quite potent, so a little goes a long way.
